Welcoming 2014 with a Blog Hop

Happy 2014~~
I thought we'd start the year off with something I haven't done before.
A blog hop!!

Join me and the hosts from  Hot Listens, The Book Nympho, andThe Geeky Blogger for this wonderful blog hop.  These ladies and I have a love of listening to audio books.  They created this hop so bloggers like me could share our favorites from 2013.
What is the Best of 2013 Audiobook Blog Hop?  Think of it as a warm up to the 2014 Sultry Listener Awards.  During this blog hop there is a glorious grand prize of a 6 month membership to Audible.com.
You read that right!  Isn’t that an awesome grand prize?

In 2013 I started expanding what I was listening to.  By participating in The Eclectic Reader Book Challenge as well as The BBC Challenge I discovered not only new authors and narrators but genres as well.  Out of the 60 audio books I heard last year these three were among my favorites:

The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen  by Syrie James was a delight to discover. After reading finishing this book I sought out her Secret Diary of Charlotte Bronte. In addition to discovering Ms. James  the narrator, Stina Nielsonwho is someone I completely enjoyed hearing.

Wish You Well by David Baldacci was my favorite book in 2013.  David Baldacci was already a favorite author of mine for his mystery/suspense books.  What truly sets him apart is his ability to leave that genre behind and write heartfelt novels like Christmas Train and One Summer.  Wish You Well is an homage to his family's  heritage in the Virginia Mountains.

Cathedral of the Sea was a book I chose simply to fulfill a translated work requirement for The Eclectic Reader Book Challenge. I'll be honest I don't believe I've purposely read many translated works before.  Ildefonso Falcones is an incredible storyteller who took me on a journey throughout Feudal Barcelona.  His ability to paint word pictures of all aspects of life during this turbulent time made you forget the book was over 600 pages.
